Meet Arlene Marcos, Certified Wedding Consultant
HOW LONG HAVE YOU DONE THIS AND HOW DID YOU BECOME A CONSULTANT?
While I was at El Camino High School in South San Francisco, I was involved in student government where I helped plan Homecoming events, Jr. Prom and Sr. Ball for my class.
While in college, I had an incredible summer internship at the Federal Reserve Board (when Alan Greenspan was there) and also worked at a bridal store at the Pentagon City Mall (my first look into the wedding industry).
I was engaged for 2-1/2 years (to my first love at age 13) and attended 13 bridal shows!
After I graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1992, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Managerial Economics, I completed a training course with The Association of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants (www.acpwc.com) in San Jose, CA. I started my business in July 1993.
I am an active member of ACPWC and I received my Certification in April 2011. I am the Mentor Program Director for the association.
Alongside my business, I have worked in the corporate world for 7 years as an office manager for a start-up company, an administrative assistant for multiple directors and a health fair coordinator. I enjoy managing, coordinating and multi-tasking in my work. I decided to leave the corporate world to focus on weddings because I love watching brides and grooms relax and enjoy their special day, while I coordinate all the details.
It is also important for me to be involved in the community. After my family and I moved in to our Redwood City home in 2005, I have been coordinating our annual neighborhood summer block and holiday parties.
Lastly, in 2014, I started working with Mike Duffy to assist in coordinating his annual Happiness Hall of Fame induction ceremony events at Stanford University Faculty Club.

In the Filipino community, I was interviewed for my wedding expertise on 2 television shows: Adobo Nation (June 22, 2008) and Balitang America (June 26, 2008).
I believe training and continuing education is important as a wedding consultant because I want to give clients the most updated trends and information in the wedding industry. I am very proud to have received my Certification in April 2011 and I continue to take advanced courses every year.
Networking is invaluable. I am part of a unique group of wedding vendors, Elite Vendor Group.
I HAVE A CHURCH AND RECEPTION COORDINATOR ALREADY. WHY DO I NEED A WEDDING COORDINATOR?
Having someone who can coordinate with the venues, wedding professionals, wedding party, volunteers and family is ideal. They will thank you later! I communicate with them prior to the wedding to make sure they are all set up for success. Teamwork and communication is the key. I orchestrate that with a detailed timeline and a flexible, joyful and disciplined attitude.
WILL YOU WORK WELL WITH THE VENDORS WHOM I HAVE HIRED?
Yes. I always look forward to working with new vendors. We are a team for the bride and groom. I will make every effort to communicate with them to make their job as easy as possible… as well as make your wedding day a dream come true!
EVERYTHING SOUNDS WONDERFUL, BUT IT SEEMS EXPENSIVE, CAN I AFFORD YOU?
It may seem expensive if you look at it as another person to hire for your wedding. However, if you look at it as a WEDDING GIFT for you and your fiancé, it won’t be. There’s no price value in being a guest at your own wedding. You don’t have to worry about the flowers at the church or the place cards set-up correctly at the pre-reception table or what is next on the reception program. I will take care of you.
In my research, I’ve read that it takes the average bride over 400 hours to plan her wedding. That’s a lot of time, right? Also, clients have told me how much they’ve saved in time, money and energy working with me.

I have two types of clients.
A couple who doesn’t have the time to plan. They have ideas, but need guidance to materialize them. They may need help with their wedding budget and hiring vendors. They may need a buffer in dealing with their family or wedding party.
A couple who is determined to plan every part of it, until they are unable to. They are eager to hire their wedding vendors, and trust that at the end of the pre-planning, I am there to take over the stress and communication with everyone involved.
Both clients want the dream wedding. They want to enjoy it, from the rehearsal to the end of the wedding reception. They do not want to worry about who stands in front of who in the processional. They are just looking forward to seeing each other when she walks down the aisle to meet him. They want their wedding to be organized, on time and fun!

No. You are my one and only client for the day. I also make sure that I am there for your rehearsal.
