Tesla and Brian are so down to earth. They are wonderful to work with because they are willing to listen to advice and go with the flow. They compliment each other’s personality. I am excited to coordinate their wedding next week!
Below are their answers to my 8 questions that I love to ask my clients…
1. How did you two meet?
It’s your standard “nerd girl meets nerd boy” story… We worked together as particle accelerator operators in the main control room at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory from May 2012 until August 2013. After Brian left SLAC for another job, I decided to casually “pursue” him until he realized that I liked him. It only took until October 27th, 2013. Fortunately, he liked me back. Phew, that could have been awkward!
2. Describe how he proposed?
We had talked about getting married a few times before last year (especially after we moved in together in early 2015), but we were waiting for life to calm down so that we could both feel sure and secure. In May 2017, while at an equine gestalt workshop, the horse guide helped me realize that marrying Brian is what I clearly wanted. Happily, Brian agreed, and insisted that I pick out the perfect ring as a symbol of his love and commitment. We got married in a tiny civil ceremony on August 18th, 2017. Then, in October 2017, we spent 2 weeks in Australia and New Zealand on our honeymoon. So, yeah, we may have done things a little out of order… but this non-traditional couple is now ready to celebrate with our nearest and dearest at our long-awaited wedding reception!
3. How are you feeling as your wedding is drawing near? How many days left?
Surprisingly calm, even though our wedding reception is only 8 days away. It feels like we’ve already taken care of most of the important stuff.
4. What are you most nervous about?
Since we’ve already been married for over a year, I don’t have any nerves related to the actual “getting hitched” part, which I imagine most brides feel. Thanks to our awesome event planner, Arlene, I’m also not stressing over all the tiny details of the day (well, no more than usual – I am a naturally anxious person). My only rational nervousness is around our old dog, Peeps (whom we adopted in May). Since we will be away from home on the evening of the reception, a petsitter will be visiting Peeps to take him outside and feed him dinner. I’m a little nervous that Peeps will get into trouble alone at home (or be difficult for the petsitter)!
5. What are you most excited about?
We’re excited to celebrate our marriage with our family and friends… and, of course, enjoy a fun day with each other!
6. What vision and/or theme do you have for your wedding day?
We’re going for a laid-back beer hall theme. We’ll have a friend’s garage punk band providing the music, a couple food trucks, and my husband’s home brew to drink.
7. Why have you hired “Ah… New Beginnings”? What do you like about Arlene?
Neither my husband nor I are big on planning (nor organizing, nor keeping on schedule), so it made sense to hire a wedding planner to help take the stress out of our wedding reception. When I looked up local event planners on Yelp, “Ah… New Beginnings” had high ratings and great customer reviews. Once we met Arlene for the complimentary consultation, I knew we were working with a friendly, experienced professional. I like how quickly she embraced our non-traditional vision for the event, as well as all her helpful vendor recommendations (from venues to food trucks to florists) and money-saving tips.
8. What do you hope to accomplish with “Ah… New Beginnings” as your wedding coordinator?
Thanks to our decision to book “Ah… New Beginnings” months ago, this year has already been a lot less stressful/overwhelming than it could have been. We’re confident that Arlene will help us pull off our wedding reception without a hitch, and that her trademark attention to detail will allow us to just relax and enjoy our special day.
